Position Title: Proposals Engineer (Mechanical)
Reports To: Proposals Manager
Department: Engineering/Proposals

Position Summary:

The Proposals Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for accurately sizing, estimating, designing, and selling process equipment and other items of process plants as required. The role involves preparing cost estimates, technical and commercial bids, and ensuring alignment with the company's technical and commercial standards. The engineer will contribute to business development by meeting client specifications and generating sales through precise and competitive proposals.

Experience Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sizing and Estimation: Accurately size and estimate process equipment in line with client requirements and company standards.
  • Proposal Development: Prepare and present technical and commercial bids and proposals that align with client specifications and meet business objectives.
  • Cost Estimation: Develop comprehensive cost estimates that adhere to the company’s technical and commercial guidelines.
  • Bid Evaluation: Conduct technical and commercial bid evaluations, prepare clarification responses, and manage the proposal process to meet client and company needs.
  • Database Management: Utilize and maintain the company’s contract quotation databases and quote management systems effectively.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to all company policies, Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements, and industry standards throughout the proposal process.

Skills and Experience:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the mechanical design of minerals processing equipment, including filtration, flotation, and agglomeration.
    • Proven track record in applications, sizing, estimating, and preparing bids/proposals, along with demonstrated success in sales generation.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of design codes, client specifications, and the ability to read manufacturing drawings, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
    • Familiarity with drafting tools such as AutoCAD and Inventor is advantageous.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Attitude: Proactive and positive, with a strong focus on business development and supporting colleagues across different functions.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work cooperatively and constructively within a culturally diverse team environment.
