Roles and Responsibilities:
Sales Forecasting and Goal Setting:
- Forecast goals and objectives for sales, gross, and key expenses on a monthly and annual basis.
- Assist individual salespeople in setting aggressive yet realistic monthly goals and objectives and provide the necessary support to help them meet these goals.
Team Management:
- Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all new-vehicle sales employees.
- Direct and schedule the activities of all department employees, ensuring proper staffing at all times.
- Maintain teamwork in a customer-focused sales environment throughout the sales, delivery, and follow-up process.
- Conduct daily and weekly sales meetings to ensure alignment and productivity.
Sales Operations and Budgeting:
- Prepare and administer an annual operating budget for the new-vehicle sales department.
- Maintain an accurate daily log reflecting all sales activities in the dealership.
- Ensure proper follow-up of all potential buyers by developing, implementing, and monitoring a prospecting and sales control system.
- Ensure that new-vehicle salespeople understand and follow dealership policies and procedures.
- Monitor and control inventory to ensure the proper mix of grounded stock for maximum turnover efficiency.
Customer Relationship and Sales Process:
- Develop, implement, and monitor a follow-up system for new-vehicle purchasers.
- Provide effective communication throughout the new-vehicle department as well as interdepartmentally.
- Assist in closing deals when necessary and work on programs that increase new-car gross and F&I penetration.
- Establish and maintain standards for vehicle deliveries to customers, ensuring satisfaction.
- Schedule first service appointments at the time of delivery.
Performance Monitoring and Improvement:
- Oversee the efforts of new-vehicle salespeople to enhance the image and customer satisfaction ratings of the dealership.
- Process salesperson commission sheets and monitor payroll records of salespeople.
- Provide accurate floor traffic control data daily.
- Review and recommend new-car inventory based on customer and market analyses.
Merchandising and Advertising:
- Direct merchandising and advertising efforts for the new-vehicle department in collaboration with the sales managers and dealer.
- Assist in the development of advertising campaigns and other promotions to enhance visibility and sales.
Compliance and Regulations:
- Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect new-vehicle sales.
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of experience in a sales management role within the automotive or related industry.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a sales team to meet and exceed goals.
- Strong understanding of sales operations, forecasting, and budget management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with both internal teams and customers.
- Familiarity with dealership policies and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to manage inventory and coordinate advertising efforts effectively.
