HEAVY MACHINE MECHANIC

A reputable organization is seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Machine Mechanic to join its maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing various types of ground service equipment (GSE) and heavy vehicles. This includes, but is not limited to, baggage carts, tugs, belt loaders, high loaders (FMC), heavy trucks, and other equipment essential to efficient ground operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues on a wide range of GSE and heavy vehicles.

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.

  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty components or systems, including hydraulic, diesel, and petrol engines (manual and automatic transmission).

  • Test equipment to ensure proper functionality and compliance with safety standards.

  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.

  • Adhere to maintenance schedules and manufacturer protocols.

  • Stay up to date with equipment technologies by participating in training programs.

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.

  • Work efficiently to reduce downtime and maintain high service reliability.


Experience Requirements:

Requirements

  • Certification, training, and/or experience in mechanics or a related field (an asset).

  • Previous experience working in an airport or similar environment (preferred).

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with a professional, team-oriented approach.

  • Willingness to work shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, public holidays, and during emergencies (e.g. hurricanes).

  • Reliable and punctual, with a strong attendance record.

  • Strong reading, writing, comprehension, and basic math skills.

  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to work under pressure, multitask, and meet deadlines.

  • Experience with heavy equipment inspection and diagnostics.

  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions (heat, dust, noise).

  • Physically fit; capable of lifting up to 50 pounds comfortably.

  • Skilled in dismantling and reassembling heavy machinery.

  • Safety-conscious with a high tolerance for stress.

  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.

  • Valid driver’s license (Group 4 Class preferred) with a clean driving record.

  • Must meet all regulatory requirements.

  • COVID-19 vaccination or willingness to be vaccinated.

  • Clean police record and willingness to undergo pre-employment drug screening.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: CI$7.00 – CI$10.00 (based on qualifications and experience)

  • Health and pension benefits in accordance with Cayman Islands law.
