Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Industry: Plastics Manufacturing (Packaging & Technical Items)

Location: Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Reporting To: Plant Director

Experience: 5–10+ Years

1. Position Overview

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the 24/7 availability, reliability, and technical performance of a specialized machine fleet consisting of 16 modern production lines. The mandate covers everything from defining long-term preventive strategies to hands-on troubleshooting of complex hydraulic and automation systems.

2. Technical Scope (Machine Fleet)

The successful candidate will oversee and personally intervene on:

HDPE Blow Molding (Extrusion-Blow): High-capacity machines for containers (0.25L to 25L).

PP Injection: Heavy-duty presses ranging from 180T to 500T.

PET Blow Molding: Precision preform blowing for small to medium volumes (0.05ml to 5L).

Peripheral Systems: High/Low-pressure compressors, industrial chillers, grinders, ovens, and automated conveyors.

 

4. Candidate Profile

Technical Expertise (Must-Haves):

Hydraulics: Expert-level knowledge of pumps, valves, and cylinders (essential for large injection presses).

Electrotechnics & Automation: Ability to read complex electrical diagrams and troubleshoot variable speed drives and PLCs.

Pneumatics: Mastery of high-pressure compressed air circuits required for PET blowing.

Process Knowledge: Deep understanding of the cycles for Extrusion-Blow Molding and Injection.

Education & Experience:

Degree: Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Maintenance Systems.

Experience: 5 to 10 years in industrial maintenance, specifically within the Plastics Industry.

Language: Proficiency in Technical English is essential for interacting with machine manufacturers. French is a major advantage given the location (DRC).

3. Key Responsibilities

Corrective Maintenance (Troubleshooting)

Perform rapid diagnosis and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and automation failures.

Minimize production downtime through expert intervention on thermal regulation and PLC systems.

Preventive Maintenance & Strategy

Design and execute a comprehensive preventive plan (lubrication, oil analysis, press column alignment, etc.).

Predictive management of critical wear parts: plasticizing screws, barrels, hydraulic seals, and IR lamps.

Coordinate and lead scheduled technical shutdowns for deep-cycle maintenance.

Inventory & Performance Management

Full ownership of the Spare Parts Inventory: identifying references, managing orders, and optimizing stock levels.

Track and report on KPIs: MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair).

Technical liaison with international equipment manufacturers (specifically for parts and remote support).
